ブラジルからやってきたヴィルジリオ・ネトは、ここでの現実が夢のように感じられる一方で、日本で見る夢の中の出来事がブラジルの日常生活に似ていることに気づきました。このコントラストが、彼の展覧会のタイトル「夢百景」と、今回展示されているサイトスペシフィックな作品にインスピレーションを与えました。
ネトの実践は、日常生活、記憶、潜在意識から引き出された視覚的要素を織り交ぜた、夢のコラージュの一形態です。この作品では、観客はポップカルチャー、日本の伝統美術、日常的な瞬間など、おなじみのビジュアルに遭遇します。形状と質が異なる紙に描かれた絵画と壁に直接描かれたドローイングがギャラリー全体を覆い尽くして、鑑賞者を包み込みます。ヴィルジリオ・ネトの思考の風景を冒険してください。
Coming all the way from Brazil, Virgílio Neto finds that his reality here feels more like a dream, while his dreams resemble the ordinary rhythms of life back in Brazil. This contrast inspired the title of his exhibition, One Hundred Views of Shadows and Dreams, as well as the site-specific artwork exhibited here.
Neto’s practice is a form of oniric collage, weaving together visual elements drawn from daily life, memories, and the subconscious. In this piece, audiences will encounter familiar visuals from pop culture, traditional Japanese art, and everyday moments, all blending on different kinds of papers and expanding onto the walls. The paintings not only stretch across the gallery but also seem to extend into the minds of viewers, inviting them to explore the landscape of Virgílio Neto’s thoughts.

ヴィルジリオ・ネト
地元であるブラジルのブラジリアとサンパウロを行き来しながら活動するビジュアル・アーティスト。ブラジリア大学UnB（ブラジル）で芸術の修士号を取得。バンフ・センター（カナダ）、サカタル・インスティテューション（イタパリカ島、ブラジル）、ピヴォ・アート・レジデンス（サンパウロ、ブラジル）などでレジデンスを経験。ドローイングを基盤に、ペインティングやサイトスペシフィックな 作品といった他の芸術言語や芸術的手段を探求している。ネトの作品の中核をなすのは、文字通りの意味でも比喩的な意味でも、風景という概念である。これらの記号化された風景は、私たちがどのように記憶を刻み、保存し、それが世界の知覚や経験に反映されるかを反映している。
Neto is a visual artist who lives and works between his hometown Brasília and São Paulo (Brazil). He holds a master’s degree in Arts from the Brasília University– UnB (Brazil). The artist has done residencies at institutions such as The Banff Centre (Canada), Sacatar Institution (Ilha de Itaparica, Brazil) and Pivô Art Residence (São Paulo, Brazil). He uses drawing as the platform from which to explore other languages and artistic supports, as painting and site-specific works. At the core of Neto’s work is the idea of landscape, both literal and metaphorical. These coded landscapes reflect on the ways we imprint and store memories, which then inform our perception and experience of the world.

早稲田大学にて哲学と比較文学の教授を務める。これまでに戦後の芸術、政治思想、美学に関して幅広く執筆活動を行ってきた。彼の著書である『枠組みを破る：ブラジルと日本における現代美術の台頭』（カリフォルニア大学出版、2014年）は、ブラジルと日本の前衛芸術家らの実践を通して、芸術における政治的可能性を探求している。彼は現在、新自由主義思想、美学、サイバネティクスといわれる各領域の交点を研究し、これらの領域が現代の文化的・知的枠組みをどのように形成しているのかというテーマに焦点を当てている。
Pedro Erber is a professor of philosophy and comparative literature at Waseda University. He has written extensively on postwar art, political thought, and aesthetics. His monograph Breaching the Frame: The Rise of Contemporary Art in Brazil and Japan (University of California Press, 2014) explores the political potential of art through the practices of avant-garde artists in Brazil and Japan. His current research examines the intersection of neoliberal thought, aesthetics, and cybernetics, focusing on how these domains shape contemporary cultural and intellectual frameworks.
