黄金町に新人二人のスタッフが入りました。一人は通常職をやめて、欧米を長期間旅し、帰国後アートの世界に踏み入れた松本黄。もう一人は、恐竜（古生物学）を大学院まで勉強しながらも建築や陶芸、音楽など様々な表現を横断してきた鈴木諒。 黄金町のために日々新しいアイディアを出しまくる二人ですが、今回、彼ら自身の表現に着眼してみようということになりました。テーマは共感覚です。ジャンルをまたいで来た二人だからこそ、感覚を横断しようとしているのかもしれません。 松本黄が作品を見たときに溢れ出す感覚を音に変換し、 鈴木諒がその音を聴きながら見える景色を即興で言葉に浮かべる試みです。
『感覚のふるさと ～Out of Sense～』我々の祖先が、太古の海で暮らしていたとき、目・耳・口など分化した感覚を持たない彼らは、神経でそのまま世界の波動を感じていた。 今でもその名残はきっとある。音に色がついて見える人や眼の前の景色に味を感じる人もいる。大脳によって切り出される前の太古の感覚を、私たちも感じることができないだろうか。 今回、絵画作品という視覚を音にし、音を言葉にするという”二次変換”を行うことで、感覚が感覚を遡ることができるか、その可能性を探る。
Two new staff members have joined Koganecho.
One is Koh Matsumoto, who left a conventional career, spent an extended period traveling across Europe and North America, and after returning to Japan stepped into the world of art.
The other is Ryo Suzuki, who pursued the study of dinosaurs (paleontology) through graduate school while also moving across diverse forms of expression including architecture, ceramics, and music.
The theme they explore this time is synesthesia. Perhaps because both have crossed disciplinary boundaries themselves, they are now attempting to cross the boundaries between senses.
In this project, Koh Matsumoto transforms the sensations that overflow when encountering artworks into sound. Listening to that sound, Ryo Suzuki improvisationally gives shape to the landscapes that emerge in words.
<Out of Sense>
When our ancestors lived in the primordial sea, before senses such as sight, hearing, and taste had become differentiated, they perceived the world’s vibrations directly through their nervous systems. Perhaps traces of that way of sensing still remain today. Some people see colors when they hear sounds; others experience tastes in the scenes before their eyes.
Could we, too, access something of that primordial perception—before sensation was separated and organized by the brain?
In this project, we attempt a “secondary translation”: transforming the visual experience of painting into sound, and then transforming sound into language. Through this layered conversion, we explore whether one sense can trace its way back through another—and whether sensation itself might recover something older, deeper, and more undivided.
