「I saw a man pissing in Ooka River（大岡川で小便する男を見た）」は、大岡川に捨てられた物体を撮影したタイポロジー*の写真作品です。84枚の写真で構成される本作は、私たちの日々の消費行動の肖像として機能し、川に流れ込んだゴミのほんの一部、ありふれたものから意外なものまでが写っています。壁に展示されているのは、作家自身のゴミのコレクションであり、彼女自身も使い捨て製品を消費する一員であることを示しています。これらは絶え間なく生み出される使い捨て素材の一端を物語るサンプルでもあります。
タイトルは、作家が川沿いを歩き始めた最初の数日間に目撃した光景に由来しています。その瞬間、彼女は恐怖を感じ、写真を撮ることができませんでした。
*タイポロジー＝似た特徴を持つ被写体を同じフォーマットや条件で撮影し、それらを集合体として表現する手法。
I saw a man pissing in the Ooka River is a photographic typology of discarded objects in the Ooka River. 84 photographs form a portrait of our daily consumption habits, revealing a small percentage of the volume of both banal and surprising objects that find their way into the Ooka River. Hanging on the wall is a collection of the artist’s rubbish, revealing her own participation in single-use goods; a telling sample of an endless stream of disposable materials.
The title refers to a scene the artist witnessed during her first few days of walking along the river. I was too scared to take a photo of that.

ジョーハナ・ン氏は、オーストラリアの未割譲のダルグ族の土地（シドニー）に住み、活動するアーティストで、オーストラリア国立芸術学校で美術学士号を取得しています。写真、動画、インスタレーション、パフォーマンスを横断して、イメージの自律的な生命を明らかにしようとしています。インタビュー、転写、再現を駆使して、大量のイメージの生産と消費が個人および集団の意識に浸透し、具体化された行動、文化的模倣、自己のパフォーマンスとして現れる仕組みを考察しています。彼女はイメージング技術を実験的に使用して、イメージの複製と真実の表現の限界をテストし、最終的には策略と反抗的な視線を活性化させないという戦略を実践しています

Johanna Ng
Johanna Ng is an artist who lives and works on unceded Dharug land (Sydney), Australia and holds a Bachelor of Fine Art at the National Art School, Australia. Across photography, moving image, installation, and performance, Ng seeks to uncover the autonomous life of images. Aided by interviews, transcription, and re-enactment, Ng considers how mass image production and consumption percolate through individual and collective consciousness to emerge as embodied actions, cultural mimicry, and performances of self. She experiments with imaging technologies to test their limits of image reproduction and truth-telling, and ultimately implements strategies of trickery and refusal to activate the oppositional gaze.
