我々は日々過剰な視覚情報を受けて、目にしているものについて考える余裕がない。今回の展示に潜む小さな違和感とズレ。来場者はタイトルに従って「目を閉じて、目を開けて、閉じて、閉じて、閉じて」ほしい。

橋村至星は東日本大震災を機に世の中で当たり前とされることに疑問を持ち、日常の風景を通常とは異なった視点から見せる絵画を制作している。生鮮食品を描いた作品を通して、私たちの多くは画一化され簡単に手に入ると思っている食品がどのように作られているのかわかっていないことに気づく。キャンバスに描かれた食品は微妙に絵画化され我々に小さな違和感とズレを与える。

小林誠一はプログラミングで生成した模様をシルクスクリーンで平面に刷るという方法で作品を制作している。シルクスクリーンを通して絵の具が定着した画面は人間の手作業の跡を残す。作品のイメージだけに集中しようとすれば、最も単純な要素で構成されたイメージ、もしくは背景のようなイメージだが、主たるテーマは製作の過程で生じたずれや手作業の不完全な部分である。プログラミングからはじまり手作業を経る制作工程は、彼の作品に対峙する肉体労働の痕跡そのものなのである。

We are overwhelmed by visual information every day and have little time to think about what we see. A small sense of discomfort and misalignment lurks in this exhibition. Visitors are urged to follow the title and “close your eyes, open your eyes, close, close, close.”

After the Great East Japan Earthquake, Shisei Hashimura began to question what is taken for granted in the world, and has since been creating paintings that show everyday scenes from a different perspective than usual. Through her paintings of fresh food, she helps us realize that many of us do not understand how food is produced, thinking it to be simply standardized and easily available. The food depicted on the canvas is subtly painted to give us a small sense of discomfort and misalignment.

Seiichi Kobayashi creates his works through a meticulous process of layering patterns and images generated through programming using silkscreen printing. The surface, wherein paint has settled through the silkscreen, is left with traces of human handiwork. If one concentrates only on the image of the work, it can be seen as an image composed of the simplest elements, or a background image, but looking at it closely, one would find the artist’s emphasis on the gaps and imperfections in the manual work that occurred during its production. His artistic process, which begins with programming and continues through manual labor, is the very trace of the physical labor that confronts his work.

橋村至星 Shisei Hashimura
The School of Visual Arts芸術学部卒、NY大学大学院Studio Art修了。帰国後は東京、横浜を中心に作品発表をしている。Gallery Side 2、Gallery Lara Tokyo、Launch Pad Galleryで個展。グループ展国内外多数。BankART AIRに複数回参加。黄金町AIRに2021年から参加中。都市部の日常で誰もが目にしているが、通り過ぎ移ろい変化していく風景と、そこを行きかう人々を絵画作品に描いている。
Graduated from The School of Visual Arts and NYU Graduate School of Studio Art. Since returning to Japan, she has exhibited her works mainly in Tokyo and Yokohama, and has had solo exhibitions at Gallery Side 2, Gallery Lara Tokyo, and Launch Pad Gallery. She has been participating in Koganecho AIR since 2021. Her paintings depict urban life portrayed through her ephemeral cityscapes with people who come and go through them.

小林誠一 Seiichi Kobayashi
94年新潟生まれ。現在横浜を拠点に活動。 2019年University of South AustraliaにてBFAを取得。2019年のオーストラリア、アデレードのCarclaw institutionにおける個展以来、2021年にFELTspace にて個展、NexusArts、WestGallery Thebertonにてグループ展参加。2022年より横浜黄金町AIRに参加。近年では主にプログラミングとシルクスクリーンを使った絵画と写真技法を用いた作品を制作している。
b.1994 in Niigata, currently based in Yokohama. He received his BFA from the University of South Australia in 2019, and since his solo exhibition at the Carclaw institution in Adelaide, Australia in 2019, he has participated in exhibitions at FELTspace in 2021, Nexus Arts, and West Gallery Thebarton. He has been working mainly with programming, silkscreen painting and photographic techniques.
