Let's Create an Imaginary Creature! Create Your Own Imaginary Creature! Upcoming

Boingzilla is an artist duo formed by Mishi, Mochida, Jack, and Mode Langre. Drawing on the world-building processes found in science fiction and fantasy works, they create a fictional world where creatures, thought-provoking landscapes, and strange tales intersect.

In this workshop, participants will use the world of Boingzilla as a starting point to create their own imaginary creatures. Two programs will be offered, tailored to different age groups.

① Workshop for Children (Ages 6–15)

First, participants will tour the exhibition space while learning about the stories behind the artworks and installations. Afterward, they will create their own original creatures using everyday recycled materials and items they’ve collected.

② Workshop for Ages 16 and Up

This workshop delves deeper into the stories behind the artworks and the storytelling process that brings creatures to life.

We’ll begin by viewing the installation to get a sense of the artwork’s world and the stories behind it. From there, you’ll freely imagine the creature you’ll create—asking questions like “What does it look like?”, “Where does it live?”, and “What’s its story?”—as you build its character and narrative.

Finally, using a variety of materials, you’ll bring the creature you’ve envisioned to life.

This workshop takes a deeper look at the stories behind the artworks and the storytelling process through which Boingzilla’s creatures come to life.

We’ll start by exploring the installation and discovering the imaginary world and stories behind the artwork. From there, participants will imagine their own creature: What does it look like? Where does it live? What kind of story does it have? Through these questions, each participant will develop their creature’s character and story.

Finally, using a variety of materials, participants will bring the creature they have imagined to life.
