【Finish】The Garden of People
Artist Nadya Olefir
Curated by Lena Aframova
The Ukrainian artist Nadya Olefir, born in the currently Russian-occupied territory, which was flooded by an explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station last summer. Her childhood garden is no longer accessible to her; all the paths she walked on are submerged.
Throughout the winter, Nadya worked on ceramic objects, structuring her feelings. Her ceramic work, crafted throughout winter, serves as a vessel for her emotions, echoing existential inquiries through poetic expression. Drawing parallels between ceramic objects and human experiences, she highlights the shaping influence of relationships and societal norms, akin to the natural forces molding stones. Through her installation of stone objects, viewers are prompted to immerse themselves in the present moment, transcending distractions to connect with their inner selves.
By leaving notes expressing their emotions within the stones, participants infuse the exhibit with their own narratives, breathing new life into the metaphorical stone garden.
