Evocation
2022, Wacom tablet and interactive electronics
Performer: Wu Jia Jiun
The work’s concept comes from a Taiwanese traditional folk ritual. If someone died accidentally, the soul will detach from the body and hover in the place that happened. Thus, the family has to hold a soul-summoning ritual in the same place. By using the spirit-calling bell and funeral banner, the Taoist priest will call for the newly dead to return home.

Golden Light
2021, Electronics
Golden Light comes from a passage in The Lotus Sutra’s Universal Gate Chapter on Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva;
“…If the hundreds of thousands of assembled crowd who seek gold, silver, lapis lazuli, mother-of-pearl, carnelian, coral, amber, pearls, and so forth enter the great sea, an evil wind may toss their boats into the territory of the Rakshasa Ghost. But if among them there is even one person who calls out the name of Gwan Shr Yin Bodhisattva, they will all be saved from the difficulty of the rakshasas…”

Replacement
2023, flute and electronics
Flutist: Li Zi Qiao
Visual artist: Lyly Chen
Replacement is a new project composed by the artist during his residency in Koganecho, reflecting the various experiences of instability and uncertainty encountered during his stay. This work focuses on how individuals cope with “discomfort” and “instability.” It explores a sense of unease within power structures and society, attempting to initiate attachment, yielding to indulgence, and seeking solace and pleasure in companionship.
The work highlights the contrast and transformation between one’s inner emotions and external surroundings. Through subtle disturbances and fragmented sounds, such as the exhalations of the flute performer, the disruption of trains, and fluctuating instabilities, it endeavors to evoke delicate private emotions while potentially finding a public gaze/listening.
