【Finish】Wu Pu Wei Workshop “Just What is It That Makes Today’s Koganecho So Different, So Appealing?”
For the exhibition Koganecho Bazaar 2024, invited artist, Wu Pu Wei, was asked to create and finish the installation of his artworks within just one month. While he referenced the title of Richard Hamilton’s work, it was not meant ironically. Instead, he earnestly wants to know, “What makes today’s Koganecho so different, so appealing?” Based on this question, he selected several individuals through interactions with local artists and staff from the Koganecho Area Management Center (KAMC), as well as through research on historical materials to feature as subjects of his paintings. Although the exhibition has ended, the question still haunts him, thus he invites local people through this workshop to contemplate the question together. Using photos he has taken and those from KAMC’s social networks as materials, participants will cut out important figures or items from the photos and paste them onto posters provided by the artist, leaving text or doodles freely. After completion, the artist will take portraits of individuals to complete the artwork.
After the workshop, the artist will finish the collaborative work which may be exhibited somewhere in Koganecho, and he will also print in A4 sized copies to give to the participants.
Note:
1. Posters and those used at the workshop will be based on the poster of the Koganecho Bazaar 2024, with various blur and processing effects added.
2. Photos used in the workshop will be blurred, printed, and used for participants’ cut-and-paste activities.
3. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials.
