Marico Aoki

Marico Aoki was born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan in 1985 and currently based in Tokyo, Japan. Aoki obtained an MFA from Tokyo Zokei University. Focusing on the relationship between nature and humans, as well as the ideas, beliefs, and rituals of various ethnic groups, Aoki creates diverse worlds in which others live through video, drawing, photography, and installation. Aoki explores how multiple adjacent and different worlds can be visualized simultaneously.

Yusuke Shibata

Born in 1980 in Fukuoka, currently based in Chiba. Yusuke Shibata obtained a MFA in Printmaking in Fine Arts at Musashino Art University in 2007. He mainly works in video, photography and sculpture, and creates installation work with them. He conducted research on video media of Southeast Asia traveling in 10 cities of 6 countries including Manila, receiving a grant of Asia Fellowship from The Japan Foundation Asia Center in 2019. In recent years, he has been working on food-related projects.

Maiko Jinushi

Born 1984 in Kanagawa, Japan and based in Tokyo. Maiko Jinushi obtained her MFA in Painting from Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan, and recently participated in a residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Netherlands in 2019-20. Her work has evolved from drawings and novels on themes of personal tales to the creation of a new form of literary experience that comprehensively combines elements including video, installations, and performances.

Atsushi Yamamoto

Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1980. Based in Tokyo, Japan. Having graduated from the Painting Department (Oil Painting Course) at Tama Art University, Yamamoto moved to Berlin in 2003 and started to produce his video artworks. Having produced more than two hundred fifty artworks so far, Yamamoto has created a variety of video works from fictional pieces with a contemporary social issue slant, to documentaries of a highly personal nature, as well as experimental pieces in a skit format.

Masahiro Wada

Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1977. He often creates site-specific sculptures, installations, and videos while responding to the living environment and people around him, as well as the people, climate, and landscape related to the exhibition location. He is also involved in the activities of alternative spaces and artist collectives such as the “National Art Museum Okutama” and “Ongoing Collective.” He is currently producing his first feature film.

Nozomu Ogawa(Art Center Ongoing Director)

Born in 1976, Tokyo. Director of Art Center Ongoing. Graduated from Musashino Art University in 2001, then achieved a master’s degree of Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, The University of Tokyo. He has held a large exhibition every year from 2002 to 2006, building a unique network of artists who have publicly applied for the exhibition. Base on this network, he launched Art Center Ongoing, an art complex, at Kichijoji in 2008.
