Benjamin Tono—Home Is Where the Heart Is Ongoing

Following a six-month residency at the Koganecho Area Management Center, Benjamin Tong will present “Home Is Where the Heart Is,” an exhibition of his sculptural works.

This exhibition begins by taking the phrase “Home is where the heart is” at face value. If “home is where the heart is,” then surely this building, too, has a “heart.”GALA HOUSE itself is conceived not merely as a vessel housing individual works, but as a living body; each room is positioned not as a point along the exhibition route, but as an anatomical element constituting that body. Rather than navigating installations organized around a theme, viewers will find themselves walking through the “interior” of something.

This exhibition explores the “body” as a place where the natural and the artificial, the sacred and the created, are now inseparable. What exists there is not merely a building housing sculptures, but a body that harbors a heart, a body that gazes, and a body that remembers.

Moving through this space is not merely a physical experience of moving from room to room. It is also an experience of turning inward to explore what it is that makes a certain place feel like “home” to oneself.

Artist Benjamin Tong is a British-born artist with roots in Hong Kong. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Saint Martins (2022) and a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art (2025).

He primarily creates mixed-media sculptures that explore the precarious boundaries between play and violence, the sacred and the absurd. Drawing inspiration from the media and myths he encountered in his childhood, he creates a fragmented world that feels both familiar and alien, where the fantastical and the grotesque collide.
