Silhouettes of people pass by the brightly lit shelves of a convenience store. Among the vividly colored product packages lining the shelves, one product stands out with its black-and-white, cost-saving packaging—a result of the oil crisis. This painting depicts how events occurring in distant countries are reflected in our daily lives.
Shadows of people come and go before the brightly illuminated shelves of a convenience store. Among the vividly colored product packages lining the shelves, one stands out with its black-and-white packaging—the result of an oil crisis. Through painting, I depict how events unfolding in distant parts of the world find their way into and are reflected in our everyday lives here.

Shisei Hashimura
Graduated from The School of Visual Arts and completed graduate studies at New York University. After living in New York for about 10 years in the 1990s, he returned to Japan and is currently in residence at Yokohama Koganecho AIR.Has held solo exhibitions at Gallery Side 2, Gallery Lara Tokyo, and the Yokohama Sakae Ward Cultural Center Lirisu, among others, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Japan and abroad. Has been participating in the “Art Project Midori” since 2015. Will exhibit at the Koganecho Bazaar + Kamiooka Bazaar in 2024 and 2025.
