Cheng Jen-Pei

Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1983. Her chosen media are “participatory art” and “action art”, where she examines the nature of food culture in contemporary times from the perspective of environmental studies and the humanities. In her culinary research work, she explores not only food or cuisine, but also the factors behind culinary culture, such as cultivation, transportation, food processing, industrial history, political food, and ethnic migration among other topics. She tries to depict the appearance of culinary culture in literature and history through visual art. During her many residencies in France, Finland, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines, she has proposed a number of performance projects focusing on different food cultures in different regions, exploring the correlation between ethnic migration and food customs, and focusing on food culture and historical memory.
