 CHANG HUNG-YEN, born in 1999 in Changhua, Taiwan, graduated from the School of Art and Interdisciplinary Philosophy Program at Tsinghua University in 2023. His primary medium is acrylic painting, and his work focuses on depicting landscapes through abstract yet recognizable imagery, exploring the relationship between viewers\u2019 intuitive perception and their real-life experiences.
His solo exhibitions include Pure Matter (WAN GALLERY, Hsinchu, 2024) and Illumination from Across (WAN GALLERY, Hsinchu, 2022). He has also participated in group exhibitions such as Taiwanese Artbook Lab (Nunu Fine Art, New York, 2024). Since 2018, his works have been featured in art fairs and exchange projects across Asia and other regions.
Chang\u2019s artistic philosophy emphasizes de-textualization, intuitiveness, and accessibility, aiming to guide viewers away from frameworks of rational analysis and towards a focus on pure sensory experience. He believes that by creating exhibition spaces detached from conventional societal perspectives, viewers can rebuild a direct connection with the essence of things. His recent work draws inspiration from deep observations of mountains, forests, and natural landscapes, striving to reveal the pure nature of objects beyond language and analysis.
