Siji Krishnan

現在インド・コチを拠点に活動。2005年にケララ州ラジャ・ラヴィ・ヴァルマ美術大学で学士号を、2007年にハイデラバードのサロジーニナイドゥ美術学校で修士号を取得。彼女にとって絵を描くことは、身体的な感覚とその記憶を記録するとともに、過去の経験を思い返すと同時に現在の感覚を過去と結びつける行為である。媒体となる紙の上で、像とジェスチャーを混ぜ合わせることで、その表面は、寝ている間にとても繊細な夢がまぶたの裏に映し出されているように、うっすらとした感覚のフィルムとして動き始める。ライスペーパーを中心に作品を制作する過程において、記憶、隠喩、および個人史に官能性、繊細さと習熟さを得ていく。

Currently based in Kochi, India. Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, Kerala, India in 2005 and a Master of Fine Arts from Sarojini Naidu School of Fine Arts, Hyderabad India in 2007. Recording the sensations of body and its memory, painting, for Siji Krishnan, is an act of simultaneously recovering experiences from the past and chronicling sensations in the present. She neatly blends the figural and the gestural on the paper, the surface resonating with a thin film of inferences, like a fragile projection of dreams on our eyelids as we sleep. Siji's process of making art mainly on rice paper brings sensuality, sensitivity and mastery over memory, metaphor and personal history.
